Action Research is a self-reflective practice that allows the practitioner to evaluate their current work, education, or personal practices to determine if they are as they should be. The key to being a successful administrator is to constantly evaluate what you are doing to make sure that it is working. Data collection through journals, logs, notes, and surveys can be collected at different times throughout the process to see if changes are taking place. If changes are not occurring, solicit the assistance of a supporter. A supporter-practitioner relationship is not structured the same as a mentor-trainee relationship. A supporter is not required to know the answers to your questions but helps you figure out ways to answer you own question whereas a mentor is viewed as the person who has all of the answers and passes them on.
Throughout this Superintendency internship, I plan to address my areas of most need in a self-reflective manner. For any areas that are not showing improvement, my first step is to take a look at my actions and determine if what I am doing is out of line with my values and beliefs and brainstorm ways to improve my progress with my site supervisor/supporter. As situations improve, I will credit the changes to my personal procedures and practices rather than changes made to a situation or program.
